I have decided that Sea World is for the birds (no offense to actual bird life). Why waste time and money and gas to watch sea animals when I got all the action I could ask for down the street? There's this little vacant lot by the bay that I visit every now and then to relax and look at the view...and if I'm lucky, see the dolphins swim by. If I'm REALLY lucky, the dolphins will actually dart right up alongside the wall where I like sitting while they try to catch fish, RIGHT UNDER MY FEET. Almost close enough for me to touch them, if they weren't so fast.

It's been going on for awhile. There's no way the dolphins don't know I'm there; I like to think they're smarter than that. I also think they may like toying with me a little, wishful as it sounds. They have this way of popping up in every random place in the water, and getting you on your toes wondering where they're gonna pop up next. And then they surprise you when they blow their little blowhole, like they're saying, "Hey, over here!" before vanishing back into the depths.

They're a lot bigger up close, but no less beautiful, especially their eyes. And their smiles (ever notice that, how they always look like they're smiling?). In fact, there's something spiritual about seeing wild dolphins, no matter how close they are, in their natural habitat, and not in some glass tank. I even had the great fortune of seeing them jump way out of the water, once, flipping in mid-air like they do in the commercials, only entirely on their own accord. That's what makes it magical.

I'll tell you what: it's impossible to feel bad anymore for the rest of the day after seeing a dolphin.

...In other news, I just had (one of) the craziest thoughts when I was in the bathroom. You know Dr. Seuss, right? And his book, "Horton Hears A Who"? The one that's recently been adapted into a movie? Yeah, gotta love Seuss.

But anyhow, I was in the bathroom, listening to my parents watch the movie adaptation on TV. And I'm thinking about that line, "A person's a person, no matter how small."

...You think Seuss wrote that story as a sort of anti-abortion allegory? Because that crazy kangaroo and everyone in the forest didn't believe that there was life on that little flower Horton was carrying around, and thus set out to get rid of it. And poor Horton was killing himself in trying to be the Whos' champion.

Like I said, it's a crazy thought. Forgive the rambling; I've just had that kind of day.

Couldn't be better.

Whatever time this Thanksgiving break that I'll not have devoted to my Psychology paper, I'll see if I can't get my spirit back to work on "Pinecones." I hope I can. I promised no more new chapter stories until it was finished. Which is kind of not good, because I think I'm getting bunnies from this Death Note Wammy meme I did yesterday.
