I'm not really gloomy-gloomy. Just that it's pouring out, and what I'm really feeling right now is a sort of ecstatic kind of gloom...if there is such a thing.

Hey, Huajun Chen, if I haven't said it before, let me just say: THANKS! For (very, very indirectly) introducing me to Death Note! 'Bout four or five days ago, I noticed her DeviantArt and Fanfiction favorites. So I got on YouTube to check out the ruckus for myself.

I was not disappointed. Well, except the part about how there're only 37 episodes (just finished seeing them all), but that's nothing.

God, where do I start?! Since I first learned about anime, most that I've seen and know of are bright and whimsical (or semi-whimsical, at least). Death Note makes for a pretty refreshing change, lemme tell you! It's dark and creepy and complex, almost like a Stephen King novel! (It's so mature, I wouldn't be surprised if 4Kids was too afraid to touch it with a ten-foot pole.) Okay, I'll admit, the twists and turns were a little hard to follow, but that's kind of the reason it's more fun to WATCH a mystery, rather than partake in one. I'm just not smart enough to create my own mysteries.

Best part, the whole thing seems pretty philosophical, dealing with death and evil and good and justice and ideals and power and...know what I mean?

And the characters...sympathetic. Well, I'll admit, I felt some ambivalence towards some of them. Especially old Light. On the one hand, he's like the Shameless God of Pricks, but on the other, I can't help but feel sorry for him. I kind of see a part of me in him: I want something better, too. The part about borderline insanity is also a bit of common ground. Admittedly, I've thought about what it'd be like to have such power as immense as what Light had...not very often, mind you, but when the cons outweigh the pros, when stark reality makes it seem impossible to begin with, I think that maybe I'm better off as just a spectator than a leader, or follower. Poor Light learned the hard way; why, I even felt crummy--for lack of a better term--when that fool stopped running and died on those steps, bloody and stripped.

Oh, and the boy knows how to swing between the ladies, if you know what I mean. Ironically, I just noticed that his last name, Yagami, spells "I'm a gay" backwards. What the hell...?

Ryuk kind of reminded me of that Sea Witch from Hans C. Andersen's "The Little Mermaid." Sure, he was just looking to relieve his boredom and all, couldn't care less what happened, but just by dropping the Death Note into the schoolyard for any fool to pick up--that fool turned out to be Light--he helped to instill the lesson on the harsh reality of pursuing the idealistic in exchange for one's rational mind (and apples). Just like how the Sea Witch did the same, just by giving the Mermaid legs in exchange for her voice. Not saying that Light is not at fault for what become of him and everyone else, because he completely is, but still...

Poor Rem and Misa! There is indeed a danger in loving someone too much, but a true lover ignores that danger. Hell, that was enough for me to overlook Misa's obnoxious attitude, for the most part.

And don't even get me started on L! Oh boy, he's got to be my top pick of all of them! He looks like a crumb-bum, a junkie for junk food who crouches like a gargoyle and looks pretty out of it, but he ain't no fool! He's creepy, but it's a benign kind of creepy...an adorable kind of creepy. Needless to say, I was devastated when Rem (I really should say Light) killed him; I almost didn't want to watch any more. But I did, I'm glad I did. Near's a pretty cool little kid, reminds me of L, except smaller and more toy-oriented...but let's face it, he's no L.

Hey, if I like L, does that mean I'm cheating on Zane?

I could say more, but I'm starting to give me a headache. Anyhow, I'm juggling around the idea of writing Death Note fanfic (which I fear I may fail miserably at because I cannot possibly capture the full complexities of the cast's characters), not to mention I'm getting this funny idea for a drawing with Light and Aster together...but don't worry, I haven't lost interest in YGO, or GX. It's this thing I do: I swing back and forth between obsessions.

Guess that's another thing Light and I have in common, huh?
